Aetherbound

An MMO built for VR, by people who wanted to play one. Real people, not NPCs.

Vertical slice

A body-first VR MMORPG: climb anything, glide on outstretched arms, real-time gesture-based combat, cross-platform standalone + PCVR. Original IP, original art, original world.

Fact sheet

  • Genre VR MMORPG
  • Platforms Meta Quest 3 · PlayStation VR2 · PC VR
  • Engine Unreal Engine 5.6
  • Players MMO; design targets of 100-115 players per shard, 12-15 active shards across 3 regions

  • Milestone Vertical slice in development

The core loop

Traversal, combat, cooking, event, reward and return loop delivered and validated on physical Quest 3 in Phase 1: climb-anywhere traversal (every surface grabbable, stamina-managed, recharge-while-attached), arms-out glide (wrist-tilt control), sword-charge combat (time swings to the spark on the blade, parry-on-tell), one biome/subzone (Verdant Reach 200x200m), one enemy archetype, one raid-sized public event (Pack Hunt), plus a cooking mini-game.

Features

  • Climb-anything traversal: every surface grabbable, stamina-managed, recharge while attached
  • Arms-out glide with wrist-tilt control, no flapping
  • Sword-charge combat: a visual spark on the blade, time swings to the spark, parry-on-tell
  • Gesture-based combat instead of a hotbar; orb-build magic and stagger-gauge boss design
  • Six classes (Riftblade, Stormcaller, Void Weaver, Earthshaper, Light Weaver, Wildcaller), no class-locked characters, switch any time

Direction

Stylized 3D, semi-realistic, anime/JRPG-influenced — "the player should always feel like they’re the hero of a moving painting, not a spectator in a live-action film." Silhouette-first, painterly over photoreal, fixed color palette per biome rather than per character, three detail levels by VR distance, in-world UI.

Who it is for. VR players who want a persistent, social world; the pitch positions Aetherbound for a Quest-first VR MMO audience the category has left underserved. Trailer audiences are listed as investors, press, developers, VR-curious, influencers, and wishlisting players.
