Sortkeeper

A gentle, story-rich sorting puzzle for phones and tablets. Every room holds a life; every object is a clue.

In development

Sortkeeper combines the instant readability of a mobile sorting puzzle with environmental storytelling. Players clear a room by moving accessible objects through a limited rack into matching containers. Specific belongings reveal why the room matters: a ticket that was never used, a mug repaired twice, a tiny door made for an unfinished dollhouse. One-line pitch: "A Little to the Left meets a tray-based sorting puzzle, with the emotional object storytelling of Unpacking."

Fact sheet

  • Platforms iOS · Android
  • Engine Unity 6
  • Players Single-player; no real-time multiplayer, guilds, chat, user-generated content, or social feed
  • Status In development

The core loop

Choose a room -> read the pile -> stage an available item -> resolve matching containers -> pack a triplet -> if it is a Story item, inspect a keepsake -> if the room is clear, restore the shelf -> choose the next room. (Moment loop 2-6 seconds; level loop 2-5 minutes; chapter loop 60-90 minutes across sessions; long-term loop weeks.)

Features

  • Sorting is satisfying without the story; the story is discovered by handling objects, not watching cutscenes
  • Pressure comes from space and planning, never a countdown
  • Story and mechanic share the same object — the player does not leave the puzzle to consume the narrative
  • Ordered Rack/container resolution, batches, blockers, Undo, and Make Room rescue with exactly-once reward replay
  • Story-Item gating with keepsake inspection and one narrative detail per ambient item (up to three per Story-Item)

Direction

Hand-painted flat color with soft occlusion shadow, 1 px-clean silhouettes, no outlines at rest; selected/tappable items get a 2 px warm outline. 2.5D layered rooms (back wall / midground / floor) on a subtle isometric floor grid so stacking reads physically.

Who it is for. Primary: adults who already enjoy sorting, matching, organizing, hidden-object, merge, or room-restoration games and who prefer short, low-stress phone sessions
